Business Challenge
  • A healthcare technology company needed to develop a comprehensive, secure Personal Health Record (PHR) system compliant with HL7-V3 standards. Key requirements included offline functionality with central database synchronisation on reconnection, synchronisation between the PHR card (K-Vault) and K-Cabinet software, integration with external EMR systems, full file encryption for security, fast extensible search for patient data retrieval, and DICOM file preview for medical imaging. The solution needed to be portable, multi-browser compatible, and support multiple languages.
Our Solution
  • Developed the EMR-PHR system in ASP.NET using agile methodology — supports offline access with automatic synchronisation to the central database on reconnection
  • K-Vault and K-Cabinet synchronisation keeps PHR card data in sync with the desktop application; HL7-V3 integration enables seamless bidirectional data exchange with external EMR systems
  • Encryption technology protects the file system from unauthorised access; extensible search enables fast patient data retrieval; DICOM file preview supports motion and motionless medical imaging objects
Key Results
  • HL7-V3 compliant — seamless bidirectional integration with external EMR systems
  • Full encryption protecting all stored patient files from unauthorised access
  • Offline-capable with automatic sync to central database on reconnection
  • DICOM file preview for medical imaging — motion and motionless objects
  • Multi-language, multi-browser compatible portable application on USB
The story so far

From fragmented records to a secure, portable, HL7-compliant PHR platform.

A healthcare technology company partnered with Kumaran to build a highly secure, HL7-V3 compliant Personal Health Record system using ASP.NET and agile delivery. The platform — comprising K-Cabinet, K-Vault, and K-Cabinet Lite — delivered offline capability, bidirectional EMR integration, full file encryption, DICOM imaging support, and extensible patient search in a portable, multi-language, multi-browser compatible solution. For this client, the goal was to place a secure, comprehensive health record in every patient's hands — accessible anywhere, protected always, and seamlessly connected to the broader healthcare ecosystem.

The Background

The client's vision was to provide every individual with a portable, secure personal health record that could be carried on a USB stick and accessed offline — bridging the gap between patients, physicians, and the wider healthcare information ecosystem. Building this required solving a complex set of challenges: offline-first architecture with sync, HL7-V3 compliance for external EMR interoperability, robust encryption, DICOM imaging support, and a scalable, extensible search capability — all within a lightweight, portable application framework.
